The article describes the main causes of the degradation and depletion of land resources. It explains why the pollution and depletion of the soil at the moment is a special type of land degradation. This addresses two main reasons for these negative changes: natural and anthropogenic impact. It is noted that at present it is the second most damaging factor. It is noted that according to the FAO report, promulgated on July 2 2008 land degradation, unfortunately, does not stop, and now affects a quarter of the world’s population. The leader in the degradation and depletion of land resources is the Russian Federation.
