Abstract.<\/em> <\/strong>The article deals with the peculiarities of the development of the US Public Land Survey System, introduced by the Land Ordinance of 1785, at the initial stage of its implementation at the end of the XVIII and the beginning of the XIX century. The state of Ohio was testing ground for the system. Cadastral division and land surveying of the territory of the state is made from two Prime Meridians: The First Principal Meridian, which is the western border of Ohio, and the Michigan Meridian, which has two Baselines and two Initial Points, instead of one. On the territory of the state of Ohio there are nine main land surveys, only three of which are based on the geodetic basis of the Public Land Survey System in the form of the Prime Meridian and the Initial Point. Three more main land surveys were made in the Public Land Survey System, but not from the Initial Point. In addition to the Prime Meridians and Baselines on the territory of Ohio, the following reference boundary lines serve as the geodetic basis for land surveying: The Ellicott line (surveyed by Andrew Ellicott, the line is the state border), the Geographer’s line (surveyed by Thomas Hutchins), the Greenville Treaty Line of 1795 (surveyed by Israel Ludlow).
