This article highlights the importance of developing one's own economic base in rural areas, which will improve the standard and quality of life of rural residents. The authors analyzed the master plan of the strategy of spatial development of rural territories on the example of rural settlements of the Morgaushsky district of the Chuvash Republic. The economic, urban planning and infrastructural prerequisites for the development and improvement of the tourist and recreational cluster on the Volga coast in the area of the villages of Ilyinka and the settlement of Vasilevka within the boundaries of the Bolshesundyrskaya rural agglomeration have been determined. The main parameters of the investigated tourist complex are given. The economic efficiency of the implemented projects within the framework of the spatial development strategy of rural areas of the Chuvash Republic is calculated.
