problems of modern land legislation in the field of protection of agricultural land. The authors note that the need to protect land is enshrined in the Constitution of the Russian Federation, the Land Code of the Russian Federation, land legislation and legal acts of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, however, the Land Code of the Russian Federation does not define specific measures of economic incentives in terms of the protection and use of land. At the same time, it was noted that the use of land should be carried out in ways that ensure the preservation of ecological systems, the ability of land to be a natural main means of production, including in agriculture. The authors also made relevant proposals for the protection of lands of this category. At the same time, it is noted that the issue of legal regulation of such lands is relevant due to the fact that in modern conditions it is the rational use of lands of this category that plays a paramount role in ensuring the food security of Russia. Moreover, the quantity and quality of the products obtained and the final results of the work of economic entities depend on the rational use of land. Also, the authors reviewed and analyzed a number of legal documents aimed at compliance with the requirements in the field of environmental protection, incl. agricultural lands. It is also noted that the existing system of administrative fines needs to be improved, moreover, specific measures of economic incentives regarding the protection and use of land should be legally fixed. In this regard, it is necessary to develop in more detail scientific and methodological support for assessing the condition and use of agricultural land, taking into account the current
