A significant part of South America is located in natural and climatic conditions favorable for the cultivation of tropical and subtropical crops. In this regard, in the countries of this region of the world, the corresponding types of fruits and berries are produced both to meet the needs of their own population, and for their supply to other states, including those located on the territory of other continents. Since the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has announced that 2021 will be the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables, this seriously brings up the issue chosen for the study. We examined the absolute and relative change in the production of fruits and berries in South America for 1961-2019, characterized the transformation of the parameters of export and import of fruit and berry products in this region of the world during the covered period of analysis. At present, Russia, along with the United States, the European Union and China, acts as one of the major subjects of demand in the international trade in fruits and berries, including those produced in South America. In this regard, the authors considered it appropriate to note in this scientific work this aspect, that is, the participation of our country in the global market of fruit and berry products from its position as an importer.
